Titled ‘We Need You’, the post highlights that the 12-year-old restaurant had been facing “internal and external challenges” that took a heavy mental toll on its team. The Naked Finn’s founder, Ken Loon, tells 8days.sg why he took the plunge to go public.

Now that the pandemic is over, revenge travelling is all the rage. The strong Sing dollar and ease of jet-setting has pushed many Singaporeans to head overseas for that special meal, or simply just to occupy a weekend.

That leaves local eateries bereft of customers who, pre-lockdown, would drop by for a bite and boost the business. The scary financial struggle comes when the cashflow runs dry as footfall dwindles.

“A lot of restaurants don’t want to talk about this, I don’t know why. Sometimes when they run promotions, it’s too late. It’s very sad, ’cos they have decent food. I don’t want to get to that stage,” says Ken Loon, owner of seafood specialist The Naked Finn at Gillman Barracks.

On Sept 24, he made the unusual move of posting online for “help” for his 12-year-old restaurant.

His Instagram post, titled “We Need You”, highlighted that The Naked Finn had been facing a “turbulent period” for almost two years, since early 2023.

Ken wrote: “Both internal and external challenges have taken a heavy mental toll on us. Since then, we have addressed most of the issues that are within our control. Unfortunately, the economic climate and other external factors are very much beyond our influence.

With that, I would like to ask for your help.

If you love our food, please help to spread the word: tell your friends, colleagues, associates, everyone! Every positive post, story and review will be the best marketing we can ever hope for.

If you have a special celebratory event or just looking for a nice seafood meal, please consider us. Every reservation and event booking will definitely get us closer to recovery.

But if we have failed you along the way, please be kind and provide direct feedback to us. Give us a chance to address it immediately, as we may have inevitably tripped up on days (rarely I hope) but never intentionally. Every negative post, story and public review will only make it worse for us.”
