McDonald’s Singapore To Start Charging 50 To 70 Cents For Extra Sauce Requests From Jan 2, 2025
If you need to drench your fast food in sauces, be prepared to pay more.
According to an FAQ uploaded to the fast food chain’s website, this extra charge applies only for customers who want more sauces beyond the complimentary quantity given for their orders.
In the FAQ, McDonald’s also explained why they are implementing the extra charges: “We have started a nominal charge for sauces beyond the allocated quantities for specific menu items. This is to help manage food waste and rising food costs – both these are ongoing challenges across the F&B industry. We seek our customers’ understanding and hope they will continue to enjoy the food – and sauces – they love.”

What to expect
The chain included a useful chart to explain what diners can get free, and what they have to pay for, starting from next year.
In a nutshell, unless you order McNuggets with your meal, you won’t get free curry sauce, BBQ sauce or honey mustard sauce, and will have to pay 50 cents for a tub.
For orders of McNuggets or Happy Sharing Boxes, you get one to four tubs of sauces free, depending on the quantity size of the order. A 20-piece box of McNuggets, for example, will come with the maximum four tubs of sauces.
But fear not, all Extra Value Meals still come with two complimentary sachets of garlic chilli sauce (one sachet for each a la carte item). Children’s Happy Meals come with one free sachet of ketchup (none for non-Happy Meals).
Hotcake syrup and extra whipped butter is also chargeable at 50 cents a tub (each breakfast meal order comes with one free tub of hotcake syrup and two free tubs of whipped butter by default, except for corn cups, which come with only one whipped butter pat).
Those who order a salad gets one packet of salad dressing for free, with every extra packet chargeable at 70 cents.
Mcdonald’s comprehensive FAQ also covers oft-expected questions like “how do you determine the quantity of allocated sauces is sufficient?” (The answer: “To reduce food waste, we have a condiment policy that takes into consideration the appropriate number of sauce packs to be enjoyed with the food.”)
Should any sauces be missing in your takeaway and delivery orders, McDonald’s will also refund you the difference.

The most epic question in the FAQ, however, is this:
I do not agree with your policy and refuse to pay for additional sauces. How can you address my concerns?
To which McDonald’s response is: “Please share your feedback with us via our Contact Us page or directly with our managers. We value your feedback on how to improve the experience.”
Will Carousellers hoarding extra sauces start hawking them on the platform? Hmm.
