It Took 50 Tries To Perfect McDonald’s Chilli Crab Sauce Burger, A Collab With Jumbo Seafood
Every time National Day rolls around, we look at what locally-inspired creation McDonald’s dreams up. With it being SG60 this year, the fast food chain has gone all out with a fun chilli crab sauce burger. And it’s not just any old gravy — it’s created in partnership with local seafood giant, Jumbo Seafood, known for the iconic Singapore dish.

Dropping on July 10, the new Chilli Crab Sauce Burgers are part of McDonald’s Makan Culture campaign, a nationwide makan-fest that leads up to the SG60 celebrations.

There are two main options available for this National Day menu: Chilli Crab Sauce Prawn Burger (Single/Double), featuring a crispy prawn patty, scrambled eggs, and that sweet-spicy-tangy chilli crab sauce.

Or the Chilli Crab Sauce Chicken Burger with the same sauce, same eggy goodness, but a crunchy chicken patty instead for those who prefer poultry over prawns.

Or if you want to taste more of that sauce, you can also order the Chilli Crab Sauce ($1) on its own, perfect for dipping your fries or nuggets.
How did this collaboration come about?
This collab was a result of a year-long R&D journey between McDonald’s Singapore and homegrown seafood giant Jumbo, known for its award-winning chilli crabs.
It took more than 50 iterations, involving countless tasting sessions (and yes, Jumbo’s CEO, Mr Ang Kiam Meng personally weighed in on those sessions too).

There’s egg in the burger, not in the sauce
Traditionally, chilli crab sauce includes eggs to thicken and emulsify the mixture. But because the burger sauce needed to stay stable, McDonald’s made a smart workaround – adding scrambled eggs directly onto the burger instead. Not only does it enhance the richness of the sauce, it adds a better mouthfeel.
“It’s chilli crab sauce, like never before,” says the PR rep for McDonald’s.
New locally-inspired drumlets on offer too, from $3.35 for two pcs
The new burgers are joined by a full slate of Singapore-inspired sides and sweets that blend nostalgia with indulgence. First up, the all-new Kampung Drumlets. Plump chicken drumlets are marinated with a fragrant blend of chilli, turmeric, cumin and ginger.
All items available from 10 July from 11am, at all McDonald’s restaurants islandwide, Drive-Thrus and via McDelivery®, GrabFood, foodpanda, and Deliveroo, while stocks last.
