McDonald’s Hokkaido Salmon Burger Taste Test: Nice Or Not?

This was delivered still warm to our office, with the burger looking a tad more wrinkled and deflated than in this promo photo (see first pic). We like the soft, airy buns topped with black and white sesame seeds, and the sweetish mayo and slaw that sits atop the salmon patty. The panko had lost some of its crispiness during transportation, but the patty was tasty and not too fishy, with the consistency of minced salmon bound with a bit of fish paste. It’s like a more salmon-y version of those rectangular fried fish patties you get at Chinese nasi lemak stalls. Think of this as the Filet O Fish’s Japanese cousin — soft, crisp and kinda sweet. Not bad, but we'd rather eat the Filet O Fish.

We love this. The seaweed salt mix that comes in a separate packet is similar to that in seaweed-flavoured potato chips by the likes of Calbee and Lay’s. A little salty, lots of powdered seaweed, with just the right hit of sweetness — perfect with the hot, crisp potatoes.

The matcha soft serve is the best thing about this Hokkaido-inspired menu. We like how the creamy treat is not too sweet, with the bitter edge of green tea and a faint floral note to it. It went wonderfully with the generous dusting of the bittersweet crushed Oreos. We’re definitely ordering this again.
