Famed 100-year-old Hong Kong bakery Hang Heung opens its first Singapore outlet today (Aug 28). It unexpectedly announced this afternoon on its Facebook page that its soft opening was happening at 3pm. It officially opens tomorrow (Aug 29) at 11am.
The takeaway shop at Ion Orchard’s Basement 4 will sell the brand’s most popular offerings, including lao po bing (wife biscuits), red bean paste cakes, mung bean cakes and egg rolls. The kiosk is located opposite new Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng Joy Luck Teahouse, which also officially opened today.

Here’s the queue situation
At dinnertime, 8days.sg found out that the queue time for Hang Heung is about 30 minutes. But the line doesn’t start right outside the shop, due to mall regulations to keep the communal walkway clear. The queue starts instead at the B4 atrium outside Watsons, about 100m away from Hang Heung's shop. Cordons and floor markers for safe distancing have been placed at the atrium for crowd control.

There are two queues
The atrium has allocated space for two lines: one for Hang Heung, and one for Joy Luck Teahouse. Just look out for the corresponding signage to determine which line you should join. For Hang Heung, you’re given a queue number upon joining the queue, which you have to present later when you’re ushered to the shop by the staff. From our observation, the queue was orderly and well-managed, with courteous staff members manning the lines.
FYI, each customer is limited to a maximum of two boxes for Hang Heung's freshly baked pastries, which includes lao po bing.
