Kaya Croissant & Free Ice Cream? The ‘Secret’ Food Deals In 2020’s NDP Funpack
How to score makan discounts & limited-ed bites via a ‘secret’ URL in the pack.

While this year’s NDP funpack (official rah-rah name: the Singapore Together Pack) contains a bunch of useful stuff, like a thermometer, face mask and hand sanitiser, we think the best goodies in it aren’t actually, well, in it.
To be exact, they’re in cyberspace — the pack comes with a card printed with an inconspicuous URL that gives you access to a buffet of discounts from local (and mostly F&B) businesses on special products that are exclusive to National Day. Think crispy, chewy Mee Suah Kueh with chilli crab sauce from dim sum joint Swee Choon, buttery croissants slathered with lemak homemade kaya from Tiong Bahru Bakery and more.

How to access the link to good makan deals
Finding the deals is a bit of a treasure hunt, but here’s our tip: Head to the link printed in tiny font at the bottom of the Our Heart for Singapore card (pictured above). Once you’re on the website, scroll down and look for the option that says “Celebrate NDP 2020 by showing support for homegrown businesses on GoSpree”.
The deals will go live from midnight on 25 July — and we can’t think of anything better to celebrate the nation’s 55th birthday with. After all, if there’s anything that Singapore does best together, it’s eat, right?
Here are 11 of the yummiest-sounding deals you can get with this year’s funpack.

Swee Choon’s Mee Sua Kueh with Chilli Crab Sauce at a discount
Hipster fave dim sum joint Swee Choon has come up with two new items to mark National Day. There’s the Mee Sua Kueh with Chilli Crab sauce, a crispy, golden marriage of mee suah with dried shrimp and Chinese sausage, bathed in chilli crab sauce speckled with fresh crabmeat. And the Lava Bun with Chilli Crab filling, a nod to the fried mantous usually served with chilli crab — only this version oozes chilli crab sauce when you bite into it. Through the funpack URL, you can get these in a Duo Bundle at $11 instead of the usual $13. The bundle is available for dine-in, takeaway and delivery islandwide.

Tong Heng’s new hybrid cake x pastry
If you like the famous diamond-shaped egg tarts and sponge cakes from this mod-chic Cantonese pastry specialist, you’ll love Tong Heng’s National Day creation. The new Cake x Pastry is a power combo of its signature flaky egg tart pastry base cradling soft, eggy sponge cake that’s generously stuffed with one of four tasty fillings: Red bean, black sesame, chestnut and red date. Pick two of the four flavours for $5.50 if you go through the URL, instead of the usual $6.40.

HarriAnns’s special kueh box
When the Circuit Breaker started, HarriAnns’ business dropped by as much as 90 percent, says its boss Alan Tan. But customers rallied to support the popular nonya kueh brand and it managed to ride through the tough period. To thank everyone, HarriAnns has come up with a special NDP Rainbow Box, available only through the Singapore Together Pack, filled with as much diversity as Singapore itself. The colourful $15 box contains 14 pieces of their famous kueh, including the wonderfully soft and lemak rainbow lapis (which we think is Singapore’s best by the way) and two cups of kopi or teh.

Tiong Bahru Bakery’s Kaya Croissant
TBB bakes one of Singapore’s favourite flavours into its famous croissants this National Day: Kaya. Think the bakery’s signature buttery, flaky pastry sliced and slathered with rich kaya that’s made in-house daily. This Kaya Croissant is an off-menu special that will only be available through the funpack URL as part of a $10 bundle together with a popular existing offering, the Bak Kwa Kouign Amann pastry (the latter usually costs $5 each). Cynthia Chua, CEO of the Spa Esprit Group that owns TBB, says: “We are proud to be part of the NDP, celebrating simple pleasures.”

Benns Ethicoa’s SG-Inspired Chocolates bundle
You may not have heard of this local under-the-radar bean-to-bar chocolate brand because it used to focus on the tourist market. But since the start of the Circuit Breaker, Benns has been collaborating with other hip artisanal brands like Brass Lion Distillery to come up with a range of delicate chocolate bon bons that we’ll be giving to all our friends this Christmas. For National Day, it has teamed up with marmalade maker Straits Preserves on a jewel-hued collection inspired by Singapore influences like the Singapore Sling and Botanic Gardens. With the funpack promo, you can get two boxes for $55 instead of the usual price of $35 each.

Irvins Salted Egg Goodies with $5 discount & free mask holder
If you’re thinking of stocking up on your WFH salted egg yolk fix from IRVINS, grab your Singapore Together Pack first. With the funpack deal, you can get $5 off a minimum spend of $30, plus a free IRVINS-branded face mask holder starring the brand’s cheeky duck mascot. (Those without the deal can only get the face mask holder with a $50 spend and above.) The best part? The discount applies storewide, so it doesn’t matter whether you’re in Camp Fish Skin or Camp Potato Chips.

Uncle Saba’s Chilli Crab Poppadoms
We recently noticed Uncle Saba’s poppadoms next to Pringles chips in our neighbourhood NTUC and were tempted enough to consider replacing our chip stash. These halal lentil crisps aren’t just vegan — they’re also free of gluten, MSG and trans fat, plus they’re lower in carbs. But we’re glad we waited, ’cos with the funpack URL, you can get a three-pack for $5.50, or half a dozen for $10 (usual price $2 a can). Look out for their National Day limited-edition flavour, Singapore-style Chilli Crab.

A free pint from Ice Cream & Cookie Co
Boutique ice creamery Ice Cream & Cookie Co has an extra special treat in store for those using the funpack e-coupon: A limited-edition flavour that you get for free if you spend a minimum of $40 (if you need a recommendation for what to spend on, try its new popular Bubble Milk Tea Gelato flavour). Called Strawberry Cheesecake, it was created to represent the colours of the national flag and will feature cheesecake ice cream with a strawberry jam swirl. The flavour is only available to those with the promo code.

Home’s Favourite MSW Durian Cake at 25% off
Riding on Singaporeans’ durian craze, cake and cookie specialist Home’s Favourite has created a red and white Mao Shan Wang durian sponge cake for National Day. We can just imagine the 1kg treat being the centrepiece at that National Day party. It’s priced at $118 — but you can get 25 percent off on this and anything else from Home’s Favourite with its funpack promo code.

Confetti Fine Foods’ Veg Chips At $5 Off
There’s something in the bag for healthy snackers too. Confetti Fine Foods (previously known as Trishaw Treats) has created four flavours of its artisanal veggie chips to mark Singapore’s 55th birthday — there’s yummy-sounding stuff like Crunchy Vegetables in Teriyaki BBQ and Tandoori Curry. These are available in a limited-edition six-pack snack box that usually costs $50, but funpack coupon users get $5 off.

Hegen’s magic bottle
Heard of the magic cup that PM Lee drank from during the Circuit Breaker? Meet the magic bottle. To celebrate National Day, lauded local baby bottle maker Hegen has launched a special 330ml design that can do practically everything you need it to — from being a storage container to transforming into a baby feeding bottle or an adult drinking tumbler. It can also hold liquids of up to a blistering 180 degrees Celsius. It’s priced at $35, but as part of the funpack deal you can get it for $28. Pre-order from now till the end of August.
