This Japanese Cafe At Bugis Has Instagrammable Pancakes, But Are They Good?

Belle-Ville Pancake Cafe first opened in Osaka in 1958 selling omurice. But eight years ago, it switched to selling pancakes to “catch the trend”, as its local PR rep tells us. Belle-Ville’s specialty is nicknamed “mille feuille pancakes”, as they are stacked high in layers like the French pastry. The shop’s name is also a nod to French culture (belleville means “beautiful city” in French). The pancakes are made in-house with Japanese wheat flour, meringue, milk and fresh Hokkaido cream, so be prepared to wait around 15 minutes for your order. The brand currently has one shop in Osaka, and another outpost in Bangkok. The latest Singapore branch is opened in partnership with Japanese F&B company Sunpark, which also runs the Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen chain, Japanese bakery chain Chateraise and cotton candy shop Totti Candy Factory here.
