Iconic Italian Restaurant Valentino, Where Lee Kuan Yew & Bhutan Royals Dined, Closing In Dec

“The restaurant is my baby, I’ve had 18 good years with it and have to accept that it’s time to let it go,” says chef-owner Valentino Valtulina of his cult-fave eatery.

After nearly two decades of serving hearty Italian fare with a convivial ‘nonna’s’ touch, Ristorante Da Valentino is preparing to close its doors this December. The impending closure marks the end of an era for Italian chef-owner Valentino Valtulina, 49, who opened his namesake restaurant 18 years ago in a residential area along Rifle Range Road with his Singaporean wife Patricia before relocating to its current location at The Grandstand in 2012.

Since 2019, tenants of The Grandstand have been aware that the Bukit Timah site is scheduled for redevelopment for future housing. Their lease will officially conclude on 31 December 2023, with Ristorante Da Valentino’s last day of operation set on December 24. According to Valentino, the restaurant was thriving before they received the final notice to move out. “If not for the redevelopment, we would’ve happily stayed on for sure,” he shares with 8days.sg.
