Hokkaido’s Bake Cheese Tart Making Comeback In Singapore
Remember Bake Cheese Tart, the Hokkaido cheese tart brand that spawned soul-crushing queues when it opened its first Singapore outlet in 2016?
Sadly, it exited the local market three years later in 2019, after the demand for cheese tarts died down. At the peak of its popularity, it had three mall outlets at Ion Orchard, Westgate, and Nex. Its last-standing outlet at Ion Orchard was converted to another short-lived concept, a croquant puff sister brand called Croquant Chou Zakuzaku, which also closed for good.
Over the years, many baked cheese tart ‘dupes’ have sprung up in the market, the most similar being the Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart chain, which is owned by the folks behind halal cafe chain Secret Recipe and currently has seven outlets islandwide.
But here’s unexpected news: Bake Cheese Tart will be making a comeback in Singapore, via a pop-up at Takashimaya at the end of this year.
