High Delivery App Fees In Covid-19 Like Watching "World Burn", Says Summer Hill Chef
Chef Anthony Yeoh sparks a heated conversation against food delivery platforms.
“I’ve turned off our Grab terminal,” starts Anthony Yeoh’s Facebook post on 15 April. The accompanying visual: a screen grab of the conversation between food delivery app GrabFood and the chef-proprietor of casual bistro Summer Hill. The Grab rep’s reply (see pic below) was a nonchalant “nope” to his query on whether there'd be a change to its commission rate given the current economic downturn. With dine-in completely banned, all F&B establishments are now wholly dependent on takeout or delivery orders to survive. What used to be “extra income” for dine-in places have now formed 100% of their business. So, while the restaurants working with Grab, Deliveroo and Food Panda were previously fine with the delivery companies’ hefty commission cuts, the pay structure is now becoming an issue with the former.
