Gen-Z Bakers Who Had ‘3 Digits Left’ In Bank Account Now Sell Pastries Rent-Free In CBD
With sky-high rents in Singapore’s F&B scene, selling pastries in the CBD rent-free sounds impossible — but that’s exactly what Cranki Patisserie pulled off.
When 25-year-old pastry chef Laura Lee and her 26-year-old partner Brenan Yeo realised they didn’t have the funds to open their own café, their pastry dreams seemed out of reach. Then came a lucky break: the owner of A Place To (APT) — a café by day and bar by night in Tanjong Pagar — spotted their ad on Instagram and slid them a sweet offer. The pair could run APT’s daytime food operations rent-free, in exchange for a cut of their sales.
