We know your wings have been clipped and your miles are languishing, but here’s a way to sate your wanderlust. This March, the Singapore Tourism Board and MICHELIN Guide Singapore, are coming together to give you a unique way to rediscover Singapore and travel at the same time — through food, of course. The MICHELIN Guide Singapore Gastrobar series of pop-ups will take you through the cuisines of Italy, Latin America, and Scandinavia, with a home-landing in mod-Singaporean territory. Each pop-up sees some of Singapore’s best cocktail bars paired up with Michelin-starred restaurants to bring you refined cooking and complementary cocktails, pairings that promise to be pure escapist heaven.
The first in the line-up is an Italian-themed collab between one-Michelin starred Buona Terra and the hip Tess Bar on March 2-3.
Buona Terra is no stranger to fine dining fans in Singapore. The refined Italian restaurant in a stately colonial-era bungalow in Orchard has been serving up super gourmet Italian plates since 2012. On March 2 and 3, Buona Terra’s chef, Lombardy native Denis Lucchi, will take over the kitchen at Tess Bar along Seah Street, sending out his signature innovative Italian plates. Chef Denis helped the restaurant clinch its first Michelin star in 2019, a reward for his commitment to presenting the classic artisanal flavours of his homeland in a refreshed, contemporary way. At the GastroBar pop-up, you can expect his signature combination of seasonal produce, robust Italian flavours, and perfectly Instagrammable plating.
If you’ve always wanted to experience these fine dining plates but in more relaxed and casual surroundings, Tess Bar makes for the perfect backdrop with its sexy but casual industrial-chic interiors, chatty staff, and selection of modern classics and bespoke cocktails. The bar is helmed by head-bartender Christyne Lee, who’s one of Singapore’s most accomplished mixologists.
Italy takes front and centre stage with this collaboration. Chef Denis will evoke Italian flavours through a combination of seasonal produce, local finds, and direct-from-Italy classics of the national pantry, accompanied by a drink menu devised by Tess Bar that pairs each dish with a cocktail built on classic Italian wines and spirits. For $140++ you get a four-course meal and a pairing with five drinks. To get your spot, reserve directly with Buona Terra or Tess Bar, or visit http://bit.ly/MICHELINSGGastrobar.
