It’s that time of the year again — when you’re left scratching your head over what to feed the fam during party season. Well, here’s some help via a list of creatively cooked turkeys for your consideration, including a steam-baked Chinese-inflected one with yam rice.

1. Smoked Turkey, $170 (feeds 6-8 pax), Decker Barbecue
All-American ’cue joint Decker Barbecue may be popular for its ribs cooked low and slow, but it ain’t quite Christmas without turkey, right? Enter the whole Smoked Turkey. The bird gets a 24-hour soak in Decker’s spice brine before spending six hours in its custom-built Dallas smoker fuelled with white oak wood for a smoky hit and supposedly more tender than usual flesh. Each order comes with gravy and cranberry sauce, but you can top up for classic barbecue sides like Jalapeno Cornbread ($45) and finish off with a sweet Apple Cobbler ($55).

2. Steam-Baked Turkey with Chestnut, Ham & Veg, $238.53 (feeds 8-12 pax), Goodwood Park Hotel
This baby is marinated for two days, then slow steam-baked for a supposedly moister bite. It’s stuffed with a Chinese-influenced mix of braised chestnuts, ham, water chestnuts, shiitake mushrooms and spring onions, and served with yam rice flavoured with shallot oil and five-spice seasoning. The dish is accompanied by brown gravy and house-made chilli sauce.

3. Garum Glazed Turkey Roast, $162 (feeds 4-6 pax), Yara
New modern Asian restaurant Yara on Evans Road is rolling out its Garum Glazed Turkey Roast this Christmas. If you’re wondering what garum is, it’s a fermented fish sauce that originated in ancient Rome and Greece, known for its salty, umami punch that adds depth to a dish. Comes with chestnut stuffing, roasting jus, plus ginger flower and cranberry relish.

4. Roast Turkey Percik, $258 (feeds up to 15 pax), The Fullerton Hotel
The Fullerton Hotel puts a festive spin on the classic Malay chicken dish, ayam percik, with this Roast Turkey Percik. The hefty turkey is brined for 24 hours in a turmeric, lemongrass and lime leaf blend, then rubbed with a ginger, candlenut and turmeric paste before being slow roasted. It comes with tomato-infused rice, sambal ikan bilis with tempeh, peanut sauce, and a spicy coconut gravy.

5. Buah Keluak Turkey, $148 (feeds 8-10 pax), Parkroyal Collection Pickering
Another bird with a local spin, this time with a Peranakan inflection. Lime Restaurant at Parkroyal Collection Pickering’s Buah Keluak Turkey stars a whole 6kg specimen coated in rempah infused with earthy buah keluak. The set is served with chestnut-studded nasi kunyit (turmeric rice), roast potatoes, a veggie medley, plus buah keluak gravy, obvi.
