Restaurant implements ‘no children under 6’ dining policy

Mod British restaurant The English House recently announced on its social media accounts that it was introducing “an age limit for children aged 6 years and above”, which means that kids below the age of six cannot dine there.

The announcement added: “This decision comes after careful consideration and is based on recent experiences we’ve had at our restaurant.” It did not provide further details, though 8days.sg has reached out to The English House for comment.

The restaurant, which specialises in British and a selection of international fare, was opened by celebrated British chef Marco Pierre White in 2018.

Like the man himself, the hip colonial-style diner deviated from the norm in its own way. It launched a creative $9.99 ‘Inflation Menu’ during the pandemic period, offering comfort food like fish soup bee hoon, and currently has a $60 dim sum tasting menu.

Announcement welcomed by fans

The restaurant’s announcement was welcomed by its fans, one of whom shared: “Thank you so much! I've had an unpleasant experience when they were around and I couldn't imagine how bad it must've been for the staff to deal with that situation.”

There was also a netizen who expressed: “Oh so it is now not a family-friendly restaurant? How sad.” (But hey, kids above six are still part of a family, right?) 

Another netizen savagely summed up the matter by stating: “Also if you’re an adult that acts like a child you can stay home too.”
