Since news of Golden Mile Complex’s S$700mil made headlines last year, its tenants have been preparing to move out of the building. The good news is, Thai food fans don’t have to wander very far from the original spot to get their supper fix. Most of the eateries are shifting to the nearby City Gate mall, including one of the complex’s oldest tenants, Diandin Leluk.
The casual Thai restaurant has been around since 1985. It was opened by a Thai-born owner, Yuang Somchua, who offers an extensive selection of zi char dishes. It is also known for operating round the clock to cater to supper-goers, though that has been paused since the Covid-19 pandemic.

What to expect from the relocation
The original Diandin Leluk at Golden Mile Complex occupies a large section of the first floor. At City Gate, its dining space has been split into two different units, though they both serve the same menu.
We suspect that is because there is no shop unit at City Gate that is as huge as the restaurant’s Golden Mile premise. Each of the new outlet can seat about 54 diners, and the OG Diandin Leluk is slated to close next month.

Both City Gate outlets will operate from Tues to Sun, 10am to 10pm. So, no longer 24 hours, but according to a staff member, that’s also partly due to a manpower crunch.

The look
What struck us about the relocated restaurant is also its revamped look. While it was known for its dim, gritty, no-frills setting at Golden Mile, the City Gate outlets are brightly-lit, sparse and actually look upscale. White tables and chairs fill the space, and the hearty Thai food is served on pretty atas-looking white plates (we also encountered very friendly and polite waitstaff there).
While we think the new restaurant looks a little too sterile (give it another 30 plus years to season?), folks who found the original location too rabak will be pleased with Diandin Leluk’s current digs.

$8.90++ lunch sets
But you can still get a hearty meal at a very reasonable price at the City Gate outlets. There is a $8.90++ Mix & Match Set Lunch menu with 10 types of main dishes, all served with a side dish, drink and dessert of your choice.
The mains include options like pineapple fried rice, fried kway teow, fried tung hoon, red wine chicken with rice, sweet & sour fish with rice, and tom yum fried rice.

Side dishes include tom yum soup, meatball with beancurd soup, and two pieces of fried spring roll. For drinks, choose from either a hot or cold lemongrass beverage, hot Milo, hot Chinese tea, iced tea or coffee, or iced green tea.
For dessert, there is either Thai chendol (a coconut milk-infused sweet soup that is closer to our bubur cha cha) or tapioca rolled in grated coconut.
The food at the new location is still tasty, if you can get over the bizarre feeling of dining in a super clean, gleaming Diandin Leluk.

Sticky mango rice sold here too
For those who like Diandin Leluk’s takeaway snacks table at Golden Mile Complex, it is also selling some of its Thai kuehs and crispy rice puffs at City Gate. The selection is noticeably smaller, but there’s still the very popular mango sticky rice here.
Diandin Leluk is now located at #01-05 & #01-17/18 City Gate, 371 Beach Rd, S199597. Open daily except Mon, 10am-10pm. Facebook
