Celeb Chef Cédric Grolet’s Soon-To-Open S’pore Patisserie Pre-Selling Chic Mooncakes At $52 For Two Pieces

The French pastry chef behind it, crowned World's Best Pastry Chef at the 2018 edition of the World's 50 Best Restaurants awards, is best known for his surrealist ‘trompe l’oeil’ (French for “optical illusion”) creations that resemble the fruit they’re made with.
This 40-seat dine-in outlet marks his first foray into Asia, and features Singapore-exclusive confections like the Mooncake ($52 for two pieces), Dragon fruit ($26 each) and Lychee ($26 each). Currently, five different desserts are available for pre-opening orders on his website, with the earliest collection date set for 14 September. The Como PR rep tells 8days.sg that these pre-opening sales items are available for takeaway only. Which means you’ll likely have to join the hordes and queue if you want to enjoy these desserts at the cafe.
Limited-edition mooncakes, $52 for two pcs
One of the most anticipated Singapore-exclusive pastries is Cédric’s limited-edition rendition of a mooncake, just in time for the upcoming mid-autumn festival in late September. It only vaguely resembles a traditional Chinese mooncake and looks more like a super chic terracotta ornament. It’s described as a confection of crunchy peanut praline, banana bread, caramelised banana and peanut ganache, all enveloped in a thin white chocolate shell. Important question: how large is one piece? Como’s PR rep tells 8days.sg its “circumference is roughly the same as a regular mooncake”.
These mod mid-autum fest creations are released in limited batches daily. At press time, 8days.sg was told that they are “selling very fast”.
SG-exclusive Dragon fruit & Lychee available for pre-sale too
While the mooncakes are currently selling like, well, hotcakes, you can still get your paws on the Singapore-exclusive Dragon fruit and Lychee desserts at $26 apiece.
The artfully constructed Dragon fruit is pumped with a gel made with fresh dragon fruit and passion fruit puree, then topped with light vanilla ganache and coated in a thin white chocolate and cocoa butter shell.
Similarly, the pretty-looking Lychee, which appears like an ethereal version of the petite fruit, also features a delicate white chocolate and cocoa butter shell. It’s pumped with fresh lychee gel and coconut ganache.
The confection made a brief appearance on Cédric’s social media pages a couple of years ago, but Como’s PR rep tells 8days.sg that it’s now only exclusively sold in Singapore.
Finally, the Mango Ginger Flower is a dainty confection of shortbread dough and vanilla cake loaded with fresh mango gel and vanilla ginger ganache.
Once you’re tired of indulging your sweet teeth, you can also splurge on one of Cédric’s cookbooks online for $90 each, if you’re so inclined.
