Nobody likes being stuck on a train, unless the train is actually a… cafe.
Cafehoppers are encouraged to go to the toilet — its surroundings are specially decked out to resemble a Japanese train, except you can skip the peak hour chaos and fare gantries here.

The menu

But instead of train bentos, teishoku (which means ‘set menu’ in Japanese) meals and donburis are served here. Like a traditional-style Teishoku Big Breakfast Set (from $15), which comes with an onigiri, tamagoyaki side, pickles, miso soup and a meaty main like soft shell crab and pork katsu.

There are also light bites and desserts like Apple Turnover ($5), Sesame Bagel ($9.50) and Ice Cream Waffles ($15.50), as well as beverages including Latte ($6), Espresso Soda ($6), Cantaloupe Float ($6) and Matcha Yuzu Spritz ($7).

Cafe Gyoen is at 55 Serangoon Garden Way, Garden Estate, S555951. Open daily 9am-9pm (kitchen closed between 3pm-6pm). www.instagram.com/cafegyoen
