Breadtalk's upcoming store in Orchard will boast brand new concept & “retail experience”

Last Friday (June 5), homegrown bakery chain BreadTalk officially delisted from the Singapore Exchange, where it had been trading after launching an initial public offering (IPO) in 2003. The news comes after the company suffered a net loss of $5.8mil for the last year, The Straits Times reports. The delisting would see BreadTalk going back to its founder George Quek’s private ownership, as he had partnered a Thai hospitality company to buy back all of his company’s shares from its shareholders.
New products
The brand is also rolling out 60 new products in the coming months. Some of the new picks are currently available on BreadTalk’s e-store, and you can get ’em delivered to your home (the rest will be launched at its Wheelock Place shop when it opens).

Brown Sugar Prune Cake, from $24.60 for a four-inch cake
At first glance, this cute cake looks like the other famous BreadTalk creation, the chicken floss bun. But the ‘floss’ is really prune cake crumble coating more prune cake, which is layered with brown sugar mousse and prune paste. It’s soft, creamy and almost boozy-tasting. Yummy.
Mala Twist, $4.20 for a pack of six
Twisted croissant dough that has been infused with mala oil, chilli and parmesan cheese powder. Good crunch and not too spicy, but a tad pricey.
Soo Cheesy, $2.20,
This UFO-like bun supposedly has mozzarella and cheese sauce stuffed in a butter roll. It sounds and looks promising, but is unfortunately bland with nary any mozzarella in sight.
Tomato Kale (right), $2.40
Tomato dough with kale, olives, walnuts, and two types of cheeses, mozzarella and gouda. Sure, we get our requisite dose of greens from the bun, but it’s all sadly rather stodgy and tasteless.
