Bangkok’s Viral Banana Cake Shop Bake It Babe Opens In S’pore On Desker Road
8days.sg samples the lone offering from the bakery — a $19.80 banana cake.
If you’ve been seeing neatly boxed banana cakes popping up on your IG feed lately, they’re likely from Bake It Babe, a Bangkok-born brand that opened its first overseas outlet in Singapore on April 1.
Its banana cake has gone viral in Thailand, especially after a TikTok post by Thai influencer Tuk Little Monster garnered over 1.7 million views. You won’t see a queue forming outside its Desker Road shop here though, as all cakes are sold via pre-order rather than walk-ins.
The brand’s quirky name and logo were inspired by a photo of its founder holding a tray of bakes, while the name itself is a playful nod to her love for Taylor Swift — specifically the song Babe (Taylor’s Version).

Opened by an ex-teacher
Bake It Babe was born in Bangkok in 2019, when founder Tarn, 33, worked as a Thai language teacher and tried a homemade banana cake at a student’s home. Unable to find anything similar after, she decided to recreate it herself.
After months of trial and error in her home kitchen, she began sharing her bakes on Facebook. Demand grew through word of mouth until it outpaced what she could manage alone.
Today, she runs the business with co-owner Oak, 33. They have a central kitchen, as well as a retail store in Chonburi, Bangkok.
It all started in a Bangkok home kitchen
Despite offering just one item, the brand now sells around 130 banana cakes daily in Thailand.
Still, production remains intentionally small. “The banana cakes take time to produce, and are baked in small batches to ensure consistency in every cake and uphold our quality standards,” the founders say.
They add that the cake’s popularity has largely been driven by customers recommending it after trying it.
The Singapore outlet operates as a local partnership, though the founders declined to share further details.
Only one item sold for now, $19.80 for 20cm cake
Each 20cm banana cake is priced at $19.80, and orders must be placed via Instagram at least two days in advance. Cakes are baked fresh daily in limited batches, with customers assigned collection slots. Each cake is pre-sliced into nine pieces, making it easy to share.
While the brand is currently focused on its signature banana cake, the founders tell 8days.sg they are working on new flavours and Singapore-exclusive items, and “look forward to sharing more when they are ready”.
They are also planning to open one to two more outlets in Singapore within this year.
Our verdict
The signature cakes are made with Cavendish bananas, which are stored until they reach the right level of ripeness.
“Each batch of bananas is handpicked at the right stage of ripeness for baking, to bring out the best flavour and natural aroma,” they explain.
The cake is whipped up with canola oil instead of butter. It’s slightly taller than a brownie, attractively crowned with banana halves and baked to a pretty golden-brown. Our food editor sampled some and concluded: “It’s pleasantly moist and pillowy for a rather short cake, with a deep banana flavour. However, it’s missing the richness of butter, since oil is used here instead. That being said, the oil lends a fluffy lightness to the cake that’s a crowd-pleaser. It’s an affordable treat to buy as both a random teatime snack or for gifting.”
The details
The baking in Singapore is handled by a local team trained in Bangkok, while the Thai team visits the SG shop almost every other week to ensure consistency.
