Some netizens outraged, others understanding
Responding to a post by online page Wake Up Singapore, netizens expressed split views on Astons’ business move. “The hard truth is that I won't be eating here anymore,” said one netizen, though most commenters agreed that the mandatory charges are “better” than the controversial American tipping culture, which relies on diners’ discretionary tips.
Another netizen pointed out: “Operational costs increased, salaries increased, rent has increased and the food cost has increased. All the while customers are demanding cheaper and cheaper meals. Have a little compassion for the restaurants that are still just trying to survive.”
Other similar concepts under the Astons Group, like Astons, Astons Specialities and Andes by Astons are still charging nett pricing.
