8 Eateries That Accept CDC Vouchers For Chinese New Year Reunion Dinners

1. Che Kitchen by 车老板

This open-air zi char joint is nestled within a Toa Payoh industrial estate. Their regular seafood offerings include crab done various ways - Chilli, Black Pepper and White Pepper (from $30-$100), plus Fish Head Curry and Hotpot ($28). For Chinese New Year, they're offering two reunion set menus from $239 for six pax, featuring dishes like Abalone Yu Sheng and Crab Meat Shark’s Fin Soup. On a budget? Most of their regular zi char dishes are priced between $10 to $30 each. Festive takeaway goodies that you can also use your CDC vouchers to buy include homemade Yuanyang Nian Gao, Lucky Carrot Cake and Good Luck Taro Cake ($24). 2. Chin Huat Live Seafood

One of the fancier eateries on this list with both air-con and alfresco seating. Chin Huat is a fave with some foodies and was established in 1982. It was especially famous for its lobsters in the '90s – with their late founder's catchphrase "龙虾大过小女孩!" (a lobster larger than a little girl). Star dishes include the umami Salted Egg Yolk Crab ($128/kg) and charcoal-roasted Suckling Piglet. Live seafood (including fish and lobsters) currently ranges from $118 to $288 per kg.

For CNY, they're offering a Prosperity Yu Sheng with mini abalone, crispy fish skin and pomegranate seeds ($68.80) and a luxe Pen Cai ($258) loaded with 10-head abalone, sea cucumber, clams, scallops and more.

3. Tham’s Roasted Delights

Run by ex-Imperial Treasure and Crystal Jade chef Max Tham at Ang Mo Kio’'s Food Haus kopitiam. Here's where you can score fancy Peking Duck at wallet-friendly prices in a no-frills setting. The star dish, Peking Duck ($52 whole; $27 half), comes with tableside carving after 5pm, complete with egg crepes and the usual fixings - cucumber, leeks, hoisin sauce plus a special sugar dip that enhances the duck's roasty flavour. There’s also the option of a Black Truffle Roast Duck ($57 whole; $29 half). Beyond these signature dishes, the stall serves up classic Cantonese roasted meats like Char Siew, Roast Pork and Poached Chicken within the modern, neon-lit kopitiam setting. Do pre-order as ducks are limited daily.

5. Fei Ye Ye Tradition 

Fei Ye Ye Food Tradition at Chinatown Complex is not a reunion dinner eatery per se, but it’s where you can grab this year’s yusheng fix. The stall is helmed by Sebastian, who was a Chinese restaurant chef in New York before taking over his grandfather’s wonton mee hawker stall with his wife in 2015. Outside of CNY season, they operate as a wonton mee stall.

The couple carries on the tradition created by Sebastian's grandfather, who began selling yusheng in the ’70s for customers at his roadside stall.

Their kaffir lime leaf-spiked yusheng menu ranges from Jellyfish Yusheng ($22 for two to four pax; $32 for four to eight pax) to Abalone Yusheng ($40/$50). Additional toppings like smoked salmon ($10) and abalone ($20) are available.

6. Keng Eng Kee Seafood

From humble beginnings as a modest hawker stall in Alexandra road in the ’70s to a popular zi char restaurant chain with three outlets, KEK has come a long way. It’s a go-to spot for celebs like Korean star Rain and top chefs like Massimo Bottura. They even collaborated with Shake Shack last year to create a Coffee Rib Chicken Burger (inspired by KEK’s well-loved Coffee Pork Ribs, $22 at KEK), plus a White Pepper Beef Burger featuring a reduced version of the sauce in KEK's popular White Pepper Crabs ($96/kg at KEK). 

7. Zai Shun Curry Fish Head

This Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient stall sells a unique combo of Teochew porridge and zi char. But it works. Amongst their zi char dishes, they’re most known for their impressive steamed fish options (market prices), which include species ranging from the typical red snapper to pricier empurau fish and even shark’s cartilage served with fermented bean sauce. While their namesake tamarind-infused Fish Head Curry is decent, their simpler seafood dishes allow the freshness of the fish to shine better. Also a must-order is the shiok Stir-Fried Salted Egg Bitter Gourd, plus hae bee hiam from the porridge selection.

Their Chinese New Year offerings typically include Pen Cai, ranging from small to large sizes. Each serving heaves with decadent ingredients such as fish maw, abalone, sea cucumber and roast pork.

8. Yang Ming Seafood

Another seafood specialist zi char fave among foodies. Yang Ming Seafood in Bishan has evolved beyond its heartland roots, now boasting two more fancier air-con outlets — one of them at VivoCity and the other at Ubi.  Do note that only the Bishan outlet is listed on the CDC site.

Yang Ming Seafood serves fresh live seafood, often with a gourmet twist like its Signature Lobster Chee Cheong Fun (from $108 for three to four pax). The tender lobster is soaked in a richly umami broth, over a bed of silky chee cheong fun. Other seafood options include crabs from $95, and live prawns from $35/500g. For a worthy non-seafood dish to order, try the hearty Chicken Stuffed in Pig’s Stomach Soup ($78).
