It’s root beer, it’s a mooncake, it’s root beer-infused mooncake! Sadly, we could barely taste the iconic drink in this cream-coloured number (though its snow skin is luxuriously smooth). Its lotus paste filling, spiked with rum and vanilla beans, confuses our palate too much, too.

Flaky Teochew ‘Orh Ni’ Mooncake, from $45 for two big pieces (8 DAYS PICK!)
The craze for the millennial pink hue has spread to this pretty Teochew-style mooncake, featuring an orh ni (Teochew for yam paste) and salted egg lava centre tucked within layers of flaky pastry that’s been dyed pink. The earthy, savoury-sweet flavour of the yam filling goes well with the custardy molten salted egg yolk. It’s a good counterpoint to the crispy pastry shell. Warm it in the oven to get the salted egg yolk within nice and oozy. Nope, microwaving it doesn’t work.

Pearl Milk Tea Snow Skin Mooncake, $14.62 each
If you were hoping this would taste like your favourite bubble tea in mooncake form, you'll be disappointed. It’s more like a traditional snow skin and lotus paste mooncake, spiked with the faint fragrance of tea and studded with a few (not very chewy) tapioca pearls. Not bad, but it ain’t bubble tea.
