3 Cheap To Steep Chinese New Year Set Meals To Consider

Chef Damian D’Silva’s Peranakan-Eurasian restaurant is celebrating the Lunar New Year with a heritage Tok Panjang buffet. "Tok" is Hokkien for table, while "panjang" is Malay for long — it refers to a gastronomic spread at traditional Peranakan feasts. The special buffet dinner features over 15 dishes ($68 per person) such as Fish Maw Soup, a rich broth starring fish maw stuffed with minced meat, sea cucumber and prawn balls, plus Babi Pongteh, braised pork with fermented bean paste, bamboo shoot, dried mushrooms and sugarcane. Desserts include Chendol. The grub is presented on a long table, and you help yourself. If you’re looking for a lighter (and cheaper) meal, Folklore’s four-course Chinese New Year Set Lunch ($18.80 per pax) comes with goodies such as Peranakan Prawn Salad, featuring poached prawns and lettuce with chill plum sauce and lime juice.

Available Feb 15 to Mar 2. Level 2, Destination Singapore Beach Road, 700 Beach Rd, S199598. For reservations, call 6679-2900 or e-mail: reserve [at] folklore.sg
