17-Year-Old Poly Students Run New Aesthetic Toastie Cafe In Bugis With $21 ‘Omakase’ Meal
At first glance, Siësta is one of the many new cafes at Sultan Gate (which includes Magg by Royz Et Vous and IndoBowl). The Muslim-owned cafe opened on Sept 20, sporting a cosy interior decked out with vintage sofas and wooden tables. It sells typical cafe fare like toasties, loaded fries, desserts and drinks, but here’s the kicker: It’s run by two 17-year-old polytechnic students, Qays Zara and Aesha Patel.

The duo have been besties since secondary school. Qays is currently studying for a diploma in Events Management at Republic Polytechnic, while Aesha is in the Digital Media Communications course at Singapore Polytechnic.
They admit that “it’s definitely tricky to be juggling schooling and running a business”, but consider Siësta a passion project and devote their after-school hours and weekends to manning the cafe.
