New Restaurant: LeTao

Japanese sweets label LeTao (say “Leh-Ta- Oh”) descends upon our shores. The confectionery from Otaru, Hokkaido, specialises in cheesecakes, namely, its Double Fromage Cheesecake ($28), made with Italian mascarpone cheese. It consists of a creamy layer of no-bake cheesecake on top of another rich and denser baked layer. There are also cookies, such as the crispy Otaru Rue Ironai Fromage cookies ($19 for 18 pieces). It is LeTao’s version of the classic buttery French langue de chat (or cat’s tongue) cookies, but spiked with cheese. All items at this takeaway shop are flown in from Hokkaido weekly.
