New Restaurant: Hattendo Cafe
Pillowy fresh cream-filled buns at this Hiroshima bakery for your snacking pleasure. (A version of this story first appeared in Issue 1369, Jan 9, 2017.)
This Japanese confectionery shop from Hiroshima opens its first café in Singapore, within the brand new Tanjong Pagar Centre mall (home to other new Japanese eateries like Japan Rail Cafe). It specializes in pillowy cream-filled buns. The signature Cream Bun ($2.50), baked in-house by chefs who have trained at the Hattendo headquarters in Hiroshima, comes in five flavours: custard, cream, matcha, adzuki and chocolate. The dough is said to boast the texture of cake. If you’re feeling peckish, there are also savoury bites like Buttered Onion Rings ($6) and Twister Fries ($6). Pair your snacks with coffee or a Matcha Latte ($6).
#01-05 TANJONG PAGAR CENTRE, 7 WALLICK ST, S078884. OPEN DAILY MON-FRI 10AM-9PM, SAT-SUN11AM-8PM. LAST ORDERS AT CLOSING.
