Mui Kee Congee, Lemak Boys, Tarte By Cheryl Koh & Tenjin Housed In New Eatery

Socieaty boasts a combined menu of over 104 dishes, all cooked in a central kitchen. Order and pay by scanning the QR code attached to each dish, or via the wait staff without having to leave your seat. Here’s a look at the seven eateries here.

The silky congee first originated in Hong Kong and was launched in Singapore by the Les Amis Group three years ago. And the tiny Shaw House outlet remains crowded today. Mui Kee’s congee is made by simmering rice and mashed century eggs in pork bone and fish stock over five hours. Dishes include the sliced beef congee ($9.80), sliced pork congee ($7.80), and premium congee like alaskan crab legs congee ($22).

A chic, casual tempura rice bowl joint that offers heaving value-for-money tendon. The year-old Shaw Centre restaurant (it also recently opened a second branch at Raffles City) serves sets like Tempura Moriawase Set ($24.80) that comes with rice, assorted seafood and veg tempura, cabbage salad and miso soup.

Sushi Jin at nearby Farrer Park Hospital has been around since Nov 2014, and it has since expanded its sushi menu to include more fuss-free rice bowls with Japanese flavours. Its range of bento boxes include Oyakodon ($18), chicken simmered with egg, onion, mushroom and spring onions and Katsu-kare Don ($22), deep-fried pork cutlet served with onion, carrot and potato curry.

The newest restaurant within this group of seven (its Shaw Centre flagship opened in September) serves a more refined rendition of Nasi Lemak and Laksa, with Peranakan twists. It’s helmed by three chefs who used to work for Les Amis Group’s Peranakan restaurant Indigo Blue Kitchen. Order the Laksa ($12.50) and Nasi Lemak ($12.50), when it opens mid-December (the other six eateries are already up and running).

Finally, our fave tart shop has opened a second outlet. Well, sort of. Tarte by Cheryl Koh was first launched in 2015 by the award-winning pastry chef of the same name, who also works at three-Michelin-starred Les Amis. You can’t go wrong with most of her buttery, elegant tarts in flavours like dark chocolate ($8) made with Cacao Barry’s “Mexique” 66% dark chocolate, and Tasmanian Cherry Tart ($13).

The Italian restaurant has been serving wood-fired pizzas and pastas for 16 years and boasts seven standalone outlets. Its beloved for its super huge XXL 21-inch pizza Classico ($49.50) with flavours like margherita and hawaiian, or Speciale ($56) including flavours such as Frutti Di Mare (squid, prawn, venus clam and oregano). Add on $3.50 to get a Half & Half.

The ubiquitous eight-year-old noodle bar chain serves slightly modern versions of Vietnamese street food like Pho and Banh Mi. Their signature dish is the Australian Beef Slices & Balls ($12.90). There’s also Ocean-Caught Jumbo Prawn Mekong Noodle Soup ($25.90) or Truffle Australian Wagyu Beef Slices ($26.90) if you want a little more atas meal.
