Kiss your diet goodbye with more American-style burgers and over the top milkshakes. Instagram-famous Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer from New York is making its Asian debut at Marina Bay Sands Singapore in the third quarter of this year.
The restaurant opened in SoHo, NYC, in 2015, and is popular for its gargantuan, eye-popping CrazyShake milkshakes and American craft burgers. The OTT shakes are sorta like the Freakshake from Australia’s Patissez (which had an outlet in Singapore that has since closed down), concoctions heaving with massive sweets like cakes, lollies and everything but the kitchen sink. Its signature drinks include the Cotton Candy and Sweet N’ Salty shakes, the former a strawberry shake with pearl chocolates topped with a lollipop, rock candy, whipped cream and tufts of cotton candy, the latter a peanut butter shake heaving with chocolate gems, peanut butter cups, chocolate covered pretzels, whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.
These towering drinkable desserts caused a stir on social media when they were first launched — there are currently 303K followers on Black Tap’s Instagram account.
Aside from crazy sinful shakes, Black Tap also specialises in craft beers (most beer taps have a little black handle, hence the eatery’s name) and burgers.
The Greg Norman Burger, starring a wagyu beef patty with buttermilk-dill, blue cheese and arugula on a soft potato bun, won the ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the New York City Wine & Food Festival’s Burger Bash.
If that sounds too heavy for you, Black Tap also offers burger salads (essentially bun-free burgers — why bother, though?) and a vegetarian Falafel Burger.
The eatery, which has four outlets in the States, is opened by New York chef Joe Isidori and restaurateur Chris Barish. Isidori was the former executive chef at one-Michelin-star mod American restaurant DJT at the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas (er yes, the POTUS is also a restaurateur — apparently).
The 150-seat “classic American luncheonette with a distinctive New York feel” will be located at the South Promenade of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, taking over the space formerly occupied by Carnivore Brazilian Churrascaria.
