Since its launch in August this year at Ion Orchard, Joy Luck Teahouse has enjoyed a good run. The local cha chaan teng kiosk, conceptualised by Singapore-born ex-TVB producer Robert Chua, saw three hours-long queues following its opening. The waiting time these days is 30 minutes to an hour.

The teahouse is popular for its egg tarts, bolo buns, curry fishballs and nai cha, which are made with recipes from Hong Kong’s treasured culinary institutions. This includes Kowloon City’s famous Hoover Cake Shop (whose egg tarts actor Chow Yun-fat adores), Kam Kee Cafe and Tak Hing Fish Ball Company.
