Eat Fried Chicken And Japanese 'Ice Kacang' This Weekend
Three fun new eateries to mosey on down to.
This 68-seater fried chicken joint is by the folks behind Swensen’s. It specialises in deep-fried chook with a Southeast Asian twist. Order the signature fried chicken plain or choose from two sauce options: the milder Sticky Kecap Manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) or the fiery Spicy Flamin’, concocted from a blend of chillies. But it’s not all just wings here, the chicken comes in four sets, including the Black Belt ($8.50, a drumstick and three two-joint wings). Besides chicken, there are doughnut burgers like the Cluckin’ Good ($7.90), a lemongrass marinated chicken thigh fillet sandwiched between two sugar-dusted malasadas (Portuguese doughnuts) instead of regular buns.

Kori King
Homegrown Kori King is apparently Singapore’s first dessert joint specialising in Kakigori, a Japanese shaved ice dessert similar to ice kacang. This café serves a variety of flavours, such as black sesame, strawberry and the not-quite-Japanese gula melaka ($6.90). The finely shaved ice mountains are drizzled with a sauce made from Hokkaido milk and accompanied by mochi balls. Additional toppings like coconut flesh are available at $1 each. Besides Kakigori, there is also Dorayaki ($2.90), cartoon character Doraemon’s fave snack. These little pancakes are filled with custard cream and adzuki red bean paste, and come in flavours like matcha.
