American Or Korean-Style Pizza, Anyone?

Sink your teeth into a spicy Korean chicken-topped pie, or a modern American one with a 'bagel' crust.

American Or Korean-Style Pizza, Anyone?

1. Blue Label Pizza

J-Dog Pizza

This modern American pizzeria is opened by the people behind Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House at Gemmill Lane. Blue Label Pizza seems fashioned after edgier pizza joints in America and takes over the space formerly occupied by a jazz bar. Its 12 varieties of pizzas are cooked in a stone oven over a wood fire. For starters, go for the Luke’s Oysters ($7), a signature of its sister eatery, paired with house-made cocktail sauce.

Blue Label State Fair Fries

There’s also the decadent Blue Label State Fair Fries ($25), starring hand-cut Idaho potatoes, beef gravy, a fried egg and shaved black truffle. As for the pies, try the J-Dog Pizza ($32), named after one of the restaurant’s owners. It’s a meat lover’s concoction with house-made pork sausage, bacon, pepperoni, jalapeño, and red sauce on a spiced crust inspired by a New York bagel. For dessert, there’s Soft-Serve Ice Cream ($8) in flavours like vanilla and spiced pumpkin.

2. Pizza Maru

PizzaMaru

Korea’s largest pizza chain has come to Singapore. With over 650 outlets across Korea, America, Hong Kong and China, Pizza Maru is famous for its patented “nutritious Green Tea Well-Being Pizza Dough”, which is fermented for over 48 hours with chlorella (a nutritious green algae commonly used as a superfood) and natural grains like flaxseed and barley.

Mango Ocean

You can sample some unique flavours here, such as the Mango Ocean (from $19.80 for a 9” pie), a creation with mango chunks, shrimp, scallops, and mozzarella cheese topped with spicy buldak (fiery Korean chicken) and pilaf sauce. If you’re not feeling adventurous, opt for classics like the Margherita (from $13.80 for 9”), starring tomatoes, basil, buffalo mozzarella cheese and a house-made tomato sauce. Aside from pizza, Pizza Maru also offers classic Korean fare, such as Korean Fried Chicken (from $16.80 for six pieces) in flavours like Cheese Sprinkles.
