Saveur’s other co-founder, Dylan Ong, opened this new 35-seat air-conditioned casual diner at Beach Road after selling off his shares in the four-outlet French restaurant chain. While Saveur serves French food, The Masses offers mod European dishes in a restaurant setting, also at affordable prices. Dylan is stationed as the permanent head chef here, whipping up nosh like a C&C Pasta ($14.90) named for the crabmeat and caviar in the dish, and The Egg ($9, pictured in main photo), a chawanmushi-like steamed egg dish available in hot and cold versions, and topped with house-made fried potato chips and fish roe. There is also mod Japanese grub like Grilled Avocado ($9) cooked on a binchotan grill and served with Japanese radish and cream cheese. Dylan and his former Saveur biz partner, Joshua Khoo, had not collaborated on a new restaurant as the latter had wanted to open a humbler hawker stall called
