With the Covid-19 virus putting a real damper on business, people in the F&B industry have been forced to get creative in order to stay in the black. For chef and high-end catering company boss Jeremy Nguee, 39, it signalled an opportunity to indulge in his passion for recreating hawker food and trying out new ways to showcase the ready-to-eat sauces and pastes that he sells under his Batu Lesung Spice Company label. Two weeks ago, he premiered his Dream Shop online pop-up store, where customers can order his “dream Hokkien Mee” and other local favourites like ngoh hiang for takeaway only.
