Well-Loved Satay Hawker Ah Pui Dies Three Months After Reopening Stall

Mere months following the return of famous stall Ah Pui Satay, its founder Ang Boon Ee (otherwise known as ‘Ah Pui’), 66, passed away on 25 July 2024.
At around 1am this morning, Ah Pui Satay’s Facebook account published a post that read: “Ah Pui’s health took a turn in recent months and he passed away peacefully today”. This news comes around two months after 8days.sg last heard that Ah Pui suffered a relapse after his cancer was in remission.

Suffered poor health since 2022
Ah Pui, who reopened Ah Pui Satay in April this year at a Toa Payoh hawker centre after a 1.5-year hiatus, was popular for his plump Hainanese-style charcoal-grilled pork satay. He started out selling satay as a street hawker in the ’70s, before moving to a cafe called 195 Pearl Hill Cafe in Chinatown in 2021. The hawker later left to open his own standalone air-con eatery at Smith Street together with his disciple, Ang Thiam Seng (known as Seng), 57, but the duo shut their biz in November 2022, citing Ah Pui’s poor health.
