Waku Ghin Wins 2 Stars, Plus 11 New Restaurants Awarded 1 Star in Singapore’s Michelin Guide 2017
The good: our fave Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine snagged a star, while Waku Ghin rightfully won two stars this time. The bad: Wild Rocket didn’t make it on the list again this year.

Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine
A total of 38 restaurants snagged the coveted stars in the second edition of Singapore’s Michelin Guide, up from last year’s 29. The results were announced earlier this evening at a gala dinner held at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.
Hot Korean chef-owner Sun Kim of newly-minted one-star eatery, Meta.
11 of the winners are brand new entrants to the list, including European-Korean restaurant Meta, mod European fine-diner Iggy’s, Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine and Cantonese eatery Chef Kang’s.
Odette retained its two stars.
Meanwhile, the lovely chef Tetsuya Wakuda’s (see main pic) swish modern Japanese restaurant Waku Ghin at Marina Bay Sands gained the second star it was robbed of last year, rightfully joining the ranks of other two-starred establishments like Andre and Odette.
Japanese-inflected Italian restaurant Terra, by chef Seita Nakahara, lost its star this year.
There are only two drop-offs on this year’s list: Japanese-Italian restaurant Terra, and celeb chef Sam Leong’s contemporary Chinese joint Forest at Resorts World Sentosa — both lost their one stars.
Now, for what we found sorely disappointing in this year’s edition of the guide:
- No new hawker winners besides Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle and Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodles, which both retained one star each from last year. We’d much rather eat plain old Hainanese chicken rice and roti prata than HK soya sauce chook, lah.

Chef Willin Low of Wild Rocket
- Wild Rocket by mod Sin cuisine poster boy Willin Low did not make it on this year’s starred list. Again. However, fellow mod Sin eatery Labyrinth, did. Take heart, Willin — Leonardo DiCaprio didn't win an Oscar until 22 years after his first Academy Awards nomination.
