Undergrad Couple Sells Tapioca Chips With Flavours Like Gula Melaka From Kopitiam Stall

The homegrown potato chip, or in this case tapioca chip, scene in Singapore is heating up. And it’s not just about salted egg yolk-spiked stuff anymore. Uncle Jimmy’s is a local brand of tapioca snacks started in April by foodie couple Jonathan Goh, 25, an SIM undergrad and Vivian Ong, 24, an NTU undergrad. “We both love to snack and were inspired by the many Korean and Japanese speciality snack shops sprouting around Singapore. So we decided to combine our start-up [concept] with our families' [as well as country's] rich culinary history,” explains Vivian, who’s in the final year of her sociology course.
