Famed Hokkien mee hawker Tan Kue Kim passed away aged 78 on Feb 14. The flamboyant founder of Kim’s Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee gained prominence for his larger-than-life personality, as he drove a flashy Mercedes Benz car and wore formal office attire and a gold Rolex watch to fry mee.

His Hokkien mee is just as well-known, with regulars praising his lard-slicked noodles’ superb wok hei and generous portions, all served by Kue Kim with a friendly smile. News of his passing was first announced by hawker Melvin Chew on his Facebook group Hawkers United.
