Order The $32 Laksa With Prawn Tempura At “Demon Chef” Alvin Leung’s New Restaurant In Singapore

We once ate a ‘used condom’ for lunch. The glistening pink sheath was made of konjac jelly and filled with a gooey substance created with honey and Yunnan ham. It nestled on powdered shiitake mushroom ‘sand’, and was called, ahem, “Sex on the Beach”. If memory serves us right, it actually tasted pretty good. The controversial dish was served at chef Alvin Leung’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant Bo Innovation in Hong Kong. The brazen blue-haired 57-year-old chef rose to fame for his brand of “X-treme cuisine”, which included dabbling in molecular gastronomy as seen in the aforementioned offering, and his now-famous spherical xiao long bao. However, at the Hong Kong chef’s latest restaurant in Singapore, 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung at the gorgeous new boutique hotel, Capitol Kempinski, the most exciting thing we ate was a bowl of laksa.
