When Deitrich Mohan decided to help run his family's famous hawker stall, he expected to spend his days frying oyster cakes, not convincing customers he belonged there.

The 43-year-old now spends most days behind the fryer alongside his 69-year-old mum, Hoon Poh Hwa, at Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake, a hawker stall that has been serving traditional Fuzhou oyster cakes since 1962 at Maxwell Food Centre.
