Well-Loved Cai Png Stall Lan Xing Delight At Redhill Food Centre Closed Permanently
The over thirty-year-old hawker stall drew queues for its affordable cai png — it cost $2.50 for one meat and two veg.
Redhill Food Centre counts many popular hawker stalls amongst its tenants, including Michelin Plate-awarded Hua Kee Chicken Rice and Bak Kee Teochew Satay Bee Hoon. However, one budget-friendly fave among them has closed its doors on February 15: Lan Xing Delight, a cai png stall known for its great prices and free bowl of soup with every meal.
Veteran hawker Koh Joo Mai, 69, decided to hang up her apron and retire after “over 30 years” running the well-loved mixed rice joint. Joo Mai and her mother ran the stall in the late ’80s before the former handled the biz solo since the early noughties. The announcement detailing Lan Xing Delight’s closure was posted on the stall’s Facebook page only a day before its final day of operations. It was reposted on foodie Facebook group Can Eat! Hawker Food by the hawker’s 49-year-old daughter, Daisy Lee, where it received an outpouring of well-wishes from netizens.
The hawker declines to say who will be taking over her stall’s space, as she is currently fielding enquiries from “multiple parties”.
