It is, after all, a hot fave among foodies who swear by the friendly stall uncles’ (the biz is manned by three brothers) dryer but still flavourful version of Hokkien Mee (from $5 a plate).
Each mouthful of gently moist bee hoon and noodles is infused with an umami prawn and ikan bilis stock. The copious bits of wok hei-kissed fluffy fried egg, sotong and springy prawns add even more oomph to the dish.
For those who long to get their paws on a plate but dread the idea of queueing and sweating, here is a pro tip: call up the hawkers before the stall opens at 10am to order your grub in advance.
Caveat: this is for takeaway orders only, but you get to swing by the stall at your choice of pickup time, grab your piping hot packets of mee and be on your merry way ASAP.
