Fishball Mee Hawkers Lose $10K Relocating Stall Thrice In 3 Months; They’re ‘Fickle-Minded’, Says Daughter

Popular among fans for its handmade fishballs and free-flow pork lard, 49-year-old stall Teck Hin Fishball Noodle had been housed at Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre since 2019. However, the hawker centre is slated for demolition this year to make way for a five-storey integrated development, scheduled for completion in 2029. This called for all its hawkers, including Teck Hin’s owners, Mr and Mrs Tan Hay Yam, aged 76 and 70, to vacate their stalls.
From early April 2024, the move began. However, within this period, Teck Hin Fishball Noodle shuttered three times and relocated to three different locations, before finally signing a one-year contract with Coffee & Tea coffeeshop at Blk 156 Yishun St 11, at a stall under the old signage of Original JLN Tua Kong Fishball Noodle. Their relocations even included operating a stall for three days only at a coffeeshop in Kim Keat. 8days.sg speaks to the owners and their daughter Eugenia, a 46-year-old housewife with an online baking business, to find out more.
