Since its Singapore launch in 2019, the plant-based meat by Silicon Valley start-up Impossible Foods has been making its way into local menus, including a cute burger truck. Initially, we were very sceptical about the meat that’s not really meat. Meh, it probably tastes like mushy soy and disappointment. But after giving it a try — in a mapo tofu bowl at Julie Tan’s cafe Botany — we conclude that it’s surprisingly decent. In fact, we’re taken aback by how similar it is to real meat. Impossibru.

The Singapore government has also called for Singaporeans to reduce meat consumption by going for plant-based meat alternatives, which could reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by almost 10 times (as compared to rearing cattle for beef).
