The Muttons Opening Izakaya Called Itchy Bun With Mentaiko Karaage Buns & Donburis From $6.80

Class 95 DJs The Muttons — which comprises Vernon A and Justin Ang — are bosses of hip roast meat eatery Fook Kin. Come next month, the duo will open a new dine-in joint at Prinsep St called Itchy Bun (say that out loud). This makes their collective F&B concepts so far Fook Kin Itchy Bun.
It’s an “easykaya”
Justin tells 8days.sg that the “spinoff” casual restaurant is owned by “the same folks behind Fook Kin” (which comprises The Muttons and their biz partners). “It’s an ‘easykaya’ focusing on Japanese small plates such as karaage, wafu buns, various rice bowls and a nice little bar for beers and sake,” he shares.
The 30-seat shophouse space will be modelled after the little diners in Kyoto’s famed Gion district. Expect “mostly al-fresco” tables though, as Justin explains that the “Prinsep vibe is outdoors seating”.
Menu prices
According to Justin, Itchy Bun aims to “bang for your buck, delicious comfort favourites and value-for-money Japanese meals”. Prices start from $6.80 for the donburis, with a supersized Surabashi Don (Super Don) with foie gras and ikura going for $18.80.
The itchy buns
The eponymous Itchy Buns are priced from $6.80 for two pieces. This consists of lotus buns kiap-ing various fillings such as mentaiko karaage and kakuni (Japanese-style braised pork). You can also order side dishes including chicken karaage and ika geso karaage (fried squid tentacles), as well as “crispy fried chicken skin”.
