Foodie Friday: What The Stars Ate This Week (May 14-21)
All the photos that made us hungry this week.

Dining at home doesn't have to be boring. This week, Zhu Houren and Joel Choo got to try offerings from Chew Chor Meng's new online business, Desmond Tan had a romantic al fresco dinner in his back yard, and Jamie Yeo whipped up a chocolate mug cake in minutes. Read on for more.

Zhu Houren and Joel Choo
What they ate: Braised meat
Yummy factor: Houren and son Joel were one of the lucky few who got to try the Chinese traditional braised meat from Chew Chor Meng's new online business Solid Lu, and they could not stop raving about how tasty and fragrant the offerings were. We've got our eye on the braised duck wings.

Desmond Tan
What he ate: Romantic dinner
Yummy factor: From what we can gather, Desmond had a romantic al fresco dinner in his own back yard, complete with grilled steak, fresh greens, sake and wine. Now, we bet the number one question on everyone’s minds is... Who was he wining and dining with?

Cheryl Wee
What she ate: Juicy burgers
Yummy factor: Pregnancy cravings for both burgers and lobster rolls, coupled with a relationship milestone worth celebrating (it’s been 17 years since Cheryl and husband Roy Fong met), made it worth Cheryl’s while to dress up and head down for dinner at Burger & Lobster. Plus, look at how happy she was to sink her teeth into the Mayfair Burger and their signature lobster roll.

Jamie Yeo
What she ate: Flourless mug cake
Yummy factor: Have you been inspired to bake of late? Try Jamie’s flourless mug cake recipe for an indulgent snack — the caramelised white chocolate bits are sure to please. The seven-ingredient recipe is so easy you can whip it up in less than 30 minutes and best of all, you can bake it in a toaster oven.

Nick Shen
What he ate: Sichuan steamed fish
Yummy factor: Nick showed his support for Marcus Chin and Kate Pang’s latest F&B venture, Tian Tian You Yu, and thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant’s signature dish with a couple of special requests — steamed fish, as well as more ginger, tofu and beancurd skin. And according to Nick, the soup was so tasty that he felt like he was having a steamboat meal.

Zoe Tay, Belinda Lee, Chen Xiuhuan, and Hong Zhao Rong
What they ate: Comforting hawker fare
Yummy factor: From slurping up piping hot bowls of mee hoon kueh and satay beehoon to their go-to Korean dumplings and fried chicken wings at Beauty World Food Centre, Ah Jie and her fellow hiking buddies probably felt relieved that they got to indulge in their favourite hawker fare together before the no dine-in measures kicked in.

Daniel Ong
What he ate: Korean army stew from online store MoMo Budaejijigae
Yummy factor: Both Daniel and his wife Fay Tan managed to conquer a huge bubbling pot of Korean army stew, which came chock full of ingredients like mussels, mushrooms, tofu, fishcake and rice cakes. You just need to put all the ingredients in a pot, add water, and dinner is served. Easy peasy.

Terence Cao
What he ate: Beef kway teow soup
Yummy factor: From what we can see, Terence looks like a newly-minted fan of Horiginal Beef Noodle. Silky smooth noodles and flavourful broth aside, he especially enjoyed the in-house chilli condiment — it proved to be sibay shiok.

Jin Yinji
What she ate: Ondeh ondeh cake
Yummy factor: Well, it sure looks like Jin jie couldn’t be happier to have received Pontian Ah Ma’s ondeh ondeh cake from Zoe Tay for Mother’s Day. And how thoughtful of Ah Jie too — not only has the sugar been reduced for a healthier bake, the ingredients used are all natural too.

Ya Hui
What she ate: Many birthday cakes
Yummy factor: It’s been a deluge of sweet treats for Ya Hui, who has been showered with love and cakes — including a savoury sashimi, uni and ikura one — over the past week for her birthday (May 18). The cherry on top for her, however, was probably having Joi Chua sing her a melodious birthday song.

Constance Lau
What she ate: High tea
Yummy factor: Constance enjoyed an unhurried afternoon at Capitol Kempinski with her parents over a tea pairing session, where they munched on canapes like bacon cheese quiches and smoked salmon focaccia, as well as plenty of petite sweet bites like citrus meringue tarts and chocolate marzipan cake.

Jade Seah
What she ate: Fire ramen
Yummy factor: It’s probably no secret by now that Jade loves her carbs. And not only did she manage to try three types of ramen at Menbaka Fire Ramen, she also managed to save some space for fried rice, fried chicken, and a pint of matcha beer. Never mind that she shared the spread with three other friends — it’s still a substantial spread.

Thomas Ong
What he ate: Fried fish
Yummy factor: While fishing can be a tiring affair, Thomas, who seems to be staycationing on a kelong, did get to enjoy the fruits of his labour — the fresh catch he brought home was promptly fried and savoured with soya sauce and fried garnishing.

Chen Xiuhuan
What she ate: Hokkien mee
Yummy factor: Now that we’re all staying home as much as possible, Xiuhuan decided to whip up her signature Hokkien mee for the family. Piled high with prawns and sliced squid, as well as plenty of lime and freshly-fried lard, that’s one appetising-looking dish that’ll beat most restaurants any day.

Yvonne Lim
What she ate: Png kueh
Yummy factor: An insatiable craving for some good ol’ png kueh — especially the fried version — eventually led to Yvonne dabbling in some R&D in the kitchen. And now that she has perfected her recipe, she can now have one of these yummy pink kuehs whenever the craving hits — complete with dark soy sauce and homemade chilli sauce.

Pornsak
What he ate: Special delivery
Yummy factor: Because Michelle Chong didn’t want Pornsak to go hungry, she made sure to send over two mains for his late dinner — fried brown rice and his fave truffle ee fu noodles. Someone give Michelle the Best Boss Award already.

Vivian Lai
What she ate: Seafood feast
Yummy factor: With more time on her hands, Vivian decided to cook up a storm at home, whipping up restaurant-worthy dishes like crunchy stir-fried prawns and a mean salted egg crab. Who needs to head out to tapow with culinary skills like that?

Belinda Lee
What she ate: Chocolate afternoon tea
Yummy factor: To celebrate her hubby David’s birthday, Belinda brought him to enjoy his favourite chocolate afternoon tea at Andaz Singapore, where they indulged in champagne with small bites like crab cocktail, chocolate chip scones with clotted cream and hazelnut dip and more. And of course, they had to celebrate with a rich chocolate-coated cake. We’re not sure which is sweeter — their relationship or the spread in front of them!

Kym Ng
What she ate: Pork chop
Yummy factor: Instead of her usual Chinese-style dishes, Kym opted for something western this time — pork chops. Seared to perfection and plated atop neatly-arranged long beans, carrots, and sauteed onions, it sure looked like a delish meal — especially with the casserole of baked baby potatoes.

Pan Lingling and Huang Shinan
What they ate: Japanese feast
Yummy factor: Lingling and Shinan’s takeaway dinner from En Sushi was a most sumptuous one, featuring everything from donburis to fresh sashimi and chawanmushi, as well as sushi and grilled seafood. Well, we hope their sons were home to share the spread, because there’s plenty to go around.

Jean Danker
What she ate: Korean-themed dinner
Yummy factor: Jean’s cosy dinner at home with hubby Glenn Ong was a simple but sumptuous affair — think comforting Korean army stew with instant ramen and seafood pancake. Plus, with the al fresco setting and fairy lights, it looks like they could have been on holiday somewhere.
