Foodie Friday: What The Stars Ate This Week (Aug 21-28)

What he ate: Bacon and waffles

Yummy factor: Gerald had a sinful brunch at Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar, where he ordered the wholemeal Belgian waffles with bacon and honey baked ham. We don’t know about the wholemeal part, but fried bacon is always a treat.

What she ate: Plenty of uni

Yummy factor: If you’re keen to try the chilled truffle somen with Hokkaido bafun uni and raw scallops Fiona had, you can get yours from delivery platform Suguru Home Dining. Rich and buttery, the top-rated sea urchin is flown directly to Singapore from Japan’s Toyosu Market.

What she ate: Surprise high tea

Yummy factor: Liping received a surprise high tea delivery for her birthday (Aug 22) and it looks like she couldn’t wait to tuck into the delicate cakes and pastries — think red velvet cake, scones and charcoal sliders — by Conrad Centennial Singapore.

What she ate: Wonton noodles

Yummy factor: It may have been a quick dinner for Michelle, but we bet it was a satisfying one slurping up wonton noodles with a dollop of sambal chilli and extra fried wontons on the side.

What she ate: Japanese eats

Yummy factor: From salmon mentaiko maki to fresh sashimi and poke rice bowls, Yifeng ate the ocean’s best at Salmon VS Unagi, a casual Japanese resto at Icon Village. And according to her, the menu is both affordable and delish — perfect for those on a budget.

What they ate: Hawker fare

Yummy factor: The couple headed over to Kovan 209 Market & Food Centre — Junyang's fave place for hawker fare — to get their fix of kway chap with plenty of braised ingredients and meats to share. However, that didn't quite satiate his hunger, and he went on to join the long queue for a spicy bowl of bak chor mee.

What he ate: Kaya toast soft serve

Yummy factor: Check out the seasonal kaya toast soft serve Justin had at Sunday Folks, topped with an actual stick of buttered toast and drizzle of coffee-caramel sauce. It looks so irresistible, we don’t blame Justin for wanting Vernon A to get the photo-taking over and done with quickly.

Yummy factor: Ya Hui couldn’t be happier to tuck into her packed dinner — especially since it’s piping hot mala xiang guo (with plenty of crunchy greens) from Chinatown.

​​​​​​​What she ate: Oreo cheesecake

Yummy factor: Cynthia couldn’t stop raving about the rich and creamy homemade oreo cheesecake that her friend sent her: “You can sell this.... This is so good! Fat die me, but it’s worth it.”

What she ate: Kway chap

Yummy factor: Brunch for Kym and her folks comprised of fried oyster omelette and kway chap with plenty of braised ingredients like tau kwa, pork belly, peanuts, mei cai, pig’s intestines and stomach.

What she ate: Chocolate fudge loaf

Yummy factor: Zed Zed put on his apron and helped his mama Fann bake a chocolate fudge loaf over the weekend — and even chimed in his two cents’ worth in her instructional video! We bet he must have enjoyed plenty of the decadent loaf after.

What she ate: Taiwanese street eats

Yummy factor: Xiuhuan has upped the ante once again with her take on Taiwan’s Shilin Night Market’s hot favourites. Think lu rou fan (braised pork rice), mee sua topped with plump oysters, XXL fried chicken, braised intestines, and more. Safe to say, it’s approved by the Taiwanese taste buds in her family.

Yummy factor: Aside from the scrumptious eggs on toast he ordered, brunch at Chock Full Of Beans was an adorable affair for Siming, whose beverage came with bear-y cute 3D latte art.

What he ate: Meat-heavy dinner

Yummy factor: “Shiok” is probably the word to describe Desmond’s dinner from Fook Kin, courtesy of Class 95 DJ Vernon A and his wife Jayne Tham. Think spicy mala chicken, char siew and crispy sio bak — what a combination!

What they ate: A la carte buffet

Yummy factor: Kewei and Alfred brought sons Shen Momo and Xiao Pian Pian to Colony Singapore at Ritz Carlton for an a la carte buffet, and the spread included assorted sashimi, lobsters and more. Yum.

What he ate: Teochew-style birthday cakes

Yummy factor: Phase 2 may have restricted the number of people at gatherings, but it certainly hasn’t limited the amount of food. Aside from nasi lemak, satay and grilled prawns, Nick had plenty of cakes for his 44th birthday (Aug 26), including Teochew kueh like png kueh, cicak kueh and gu cai kueh.

What he ate: Steak and oysters

Yummy factor: Happy belated birthday, Mike! He celebrated his special day (Aug 24) with wifey Su-Ann Heng at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, where they shared three different cuts of beef — tenderloin, ribeye and sirloin — as well as fresh oysters, sides, and plenty of wine.

Yummy factor: Hazelle had a quintessential Singaporean breakfast of kaya and butter toast, along with soft boiled eggs with plenty of dark sauce and white pepper — perfect way to start the day.

What she ate: No-bake cheese tarts

Yummy factor: When Le Cordon Blue-trained Jeanette recommends a cheese tart recipe, you know it has to be good. Couple that with the fact that there’s no baking required and it sounds almost too good to be true — try making the indulgent treat for yourself!

What she ate: Curry berries

Yummy factor: Health nut Jacelyn picked out ripe curry berries from her own curry plant as a snack, and while the black-coloured fruits may have an acquired taste, they’re high in vitamin C!
