Foodie Friday: What The Stars Ate This Week (Aug 20-27)

What they ate: Juicy steaks

Yummy factor: Zoe couldn’t be happier to have Yvonne back in Singapore — the Chionh family warmly welcomed the latter with a homemade feast — plenty of juicy steaks, grilled mushrooms and vegetables, as well as a most delectable kueh salat cake topped with Yvonne's favourite ondeh ondeh.

What she ate: Fusion food

Yummy factor: Check out the fusion dishes Diana had at Tipsy Flamingo (Pierre Png and Andrea De Cruz’s latest F&B venture) — the kale salad with rojak dressing and miso cod were both vying for attention with their unusual flavours and riot of colours.

What she ate: Seafood

Yummy factor: Ivy’s seafood platter is nothing short of indulgent — there’s an assortment of clams, mussels, grilled prawns, fried fish, and what looks like lobster, along with plenty of sauces to go with them. And who can say no to a martini or two to go with the spread?

What they ate: Buffet

Yummy factor: Joel and his dad, actor Zhu Houren, checked out the buffet at Edge at Pan Pacific Hotel, and boy did they have a feast fit for kings — there were whole lobsters, fresh sashimi and oysters, as well as plenty of other seafood and more. Talk about a sea-riously indulgent meal.

What she ate: Seafood in a bag

Yummy factor: While Carrie and her manager may have ordered too much for two ladies, the actress looks delighted to be tucking into the sumptuous spread of seafood in a bag, along with fried mantous, skinny fries, and fried calamari. We hear they even had dessert after.

What she ate: Wholesome picnic

Yummy factor: Despite the fact that they were picnicking at home, Joanne and her kids, Baby Qi and Qi Didi got to travel the world via their taste buds. There were juicy grapes from the US, vine-ripened tomatoes from the Netherlands, Irish vegan cookies, popcorn from New Zealand and more — what a yummy way to teach the kiddos about the various countries these foods hail from.

What he ate: Comfort food

Yummy factor: A huge slab of steak with greens, pasta and risotto — those are just some of the comforting dishes Elvin enjoyed at EagleWings Loft. And who can resist a creamy broth with bread on the side to dip with?

What he ate: Bak kut teh

Yummy factor: Over the past weekend, Thomas visited Rangoon Road for his fix of Legendary Bak Kut Teh — think prime ribs in peppery broth, braised pig trotter and fried ngoh hiang. Apparently, it’s been his go-to place for the past two years, and he’s a huge fan of their ngoh hiang too.

What she ate: Savoury crepe at Gather

Yummy factor: Looks like Chantalle couldn't wait to dig into what looks like the ratatouille galette. The paper thin crepe comes with stewed vegetables like zucchini, peppers, eggplant, and a rich helping of gruyere and cheddar.

What he ate: Seafood

Yummy factor: Ben made a trip to Newton Food Centre to satisfy his craving for seafood, where he had his fill of cereal prawns and stir-fried crabs with rice. And of course, he washed it all down with a classic sugar cane juice.

What they ate: Hawker eats

Yummy factor: Remember the hawker recommendations by your fave celebs? Jernelle and Gini tried some of them, including the Teochew-style bak kut teh approved by Dennis Chew, the “yuan yang” fried carrot cake at Hock Kee’s that Kayly Loh loves, Kimberly Wang’s go-to kway chap from To-Ricos Guo Shi and more. What they ate: Japanese dinner

Yummy factor: Together with Sharon, The Freshman's Diya and Carrie celebrated their NDP performance with plenty of yummy Japanese eats — generous amounts of sushi, creamy uni and seared tuna sashimi slices personally torched to perfection by Diya herself. And of course, the vocal powerhouses prepped a cake for Sharon as a belated birthday surprise.

What she ate: Romantic dinner

Yummy factor: What would you do when you’ve taken an Antigen Rapid Test (ART)? For Cheryl, who is not fully vaccinated, and her hubby Roy Fong, they decided to make the most of their "24 hours of makan freedom" by dining in at their favourite restaurants including a romantic dinner Angus House. Without the kids in two, the couple had plenty of time to slowly savour their indulgent meal of baked escargots, pasta, wagyu steak and dessert.

What she ate: Sinful eats

Yummy factor: Now that Patricia has concluded her hosting duties for National Day Parade, she’s all about satisfying her cravings for all things sinful and potentially bad for her throat — think a shiok mookata session where she got to grill all her favourite ingredients, as well as fried junk food like oily spam fries.

What he ate: Sushi platter

Yummy factor: For someone who hates sugary sweet cakes, Mike’s savoury surprise from his Gold 905 fam must have been a real treat. For his 48th birthday (Aug 24), he was gifted a generous platter of sushi, with colourful maki sushi, california rolls and more. Yum.

What he ate: Chicken curry

Yummy factor: Terence spent his entire day filming the preparation of chicken curry, and he probably got to savour the rich, savoury goodness and tender meat after. Well, it wouldn’t have been a bad idea to tapow some home to have with fluffy rice.

What she ate: Korean food

Yummy factor: From a whole platter of Korean-style fried chicken slathered in tangy sauce to kimchi pancake and stir-fried japchae, Belinda got to have all her favourite Korean eats over the weekend, thanks to friends who sent over a feast from resto I’m Kim Korean BBQ & Shabu Shabu.

What she ate: Cold cuts

Yummy factor: With Michelle’s eye for detail, it’s probably no surprise that her homemade cold cut platter has to look perfect — even if it means spending more time rolling the salami slices, and slicing the brie and camembert properly. And of course she had to enjoy her cheeses and cold cuts with equally gorgeous drinks.

What she ate: Watermelon cake

Yummy factor: Instead of a regular cake, Xiuhuan was inspired to put together a guilt-free and refreshing one with layers carved out from fresh watermelon, and decorated with assorted berries. Not only is it pretty, it makes for a fantastic dessert — especially when the weather gets warm.

What she ate: Collagen hotpot

Yummy factor: It’s been a while since Jaime had a hotpot sesh, and nothing will stop her — even if she only has one good hand (the left arm is in a sling) to swish her marbled beef slices and meatballs, and more in the collagen broth at Beauty in the Pot.
