At the time of his passing, he was also a chef whose restaurants boast the most number of Michelin stars in the world — 32 stars in total.
News of his passing come as a second big shock for Singaporean foodies, who are still reeling from the surprise closure of his three-Michelin-star Joël Robuchon Restaurant and its sister restaurant L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon earlier this June.
The chef had looked to be in good health in his last Instagram post this June, where he had enjoyed an onsen session in Japan.
But we hear from industry insiders that his illness did not have anything to do with the closure of his two eateries in Singapore. It also seems initial plans for possibly relocating L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon to somewhere in Orchard Road are now up in the air.
