Over the weekend at the D23 expo, Disney’s yearly fan convention in Anaheim, California, attendees were treated to a brief but tantalising behind-the-scenes teaser of the upcoming Star Wars sequel.
The three-minute reel features lots of action shots (exploding red soil?), armies of artisans at work, comical outtakes (director Rian Johnson making Wookie noises), and a menagerie of characters played by familiar (Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac) and new faces (Laura Dern, Benicio del Toro and one Kelly Marie Tran as a freedom fighter, Rose Tico).
The clip ends with the late Carrie Fisher, who died in December, as General Leia Organa, saying, “It’s about family and that’s what’s so powerful about it.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in cinemas Dec 14.
