Daniel Craig To Host Saturday Night Live Next Month

Make laugh, not war, Mr Bond!

Before Daniel Craig embarks on his final mission as James Bond in No Time to Die, he’ll spare some time as the host of Saturday Night Live. He’ll take over Studio 8H at the 30 Rockfeller Plaza on March 7, with The Weeknd as musical guest. (The episode will be shown here on Comedy Central the following weekend.).

This is the 51-year-old British actor’s second time hosting; he last did it in 2012 (Season 38, Ep 3), a few months after appearing in a James Bond spoof which was screened as part of the London Olympics Opening Ceremony. Here’s the SNL skit he did.

In the years since that SNL gig, Craig got to work on his comedic muscles as safe-cracker expert Joe Bang in Steven Soderbergh’s heist caper Logan Lucky, and more recently as master detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s whodunit Knives Out. In both movies, his characters have a Southern drawl.

While Craig is done with playing James Bond, he may have found his next franchise: the producers of Knives Out have confirmed that they are moving forward with the sequel, again with Johnson at the helm.

Since its December debut, Knives Out has grossed more than US$300 million (S$417 mil) worldwide on a reported US$40 million budget. It’s in the running for Best Original Screenplay at this Sunday’s Oscars. No release date has been set for the Knives Out sequel.

Catch Craig’s Saturday Night Live ep on Mar 14, Comedy Central (Singtel TV Ch 324 & StarHub Ch 516), 10pm. No Time to Die opens in cinemas Apr 9.
